Steve Irwin: 1962-2006

I can't let time pass without expressing a heartfelt farewell to the Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, who died on September 4 while filming a documentary at Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

A memorial was held September 21 at Australia Zoo, which is owned by the Irwin family. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that nearly "2.4 million Australians watched the televised memorial service," and "tributes from actors Hugh Jackman, Cameron Diaz and Russell Crowe" were played.

Steve became a popular TV personality in America just before Jake, myself, and our friend Alicia ventured down to Sydney in New South Wales. We all liked him for his charismatic personality and, above all, his outstanding Australian accent, which had a ridiculous influence on my own speech.

We enjoyed having him around on television, and we'll miss him being here. For the extraordinary things he accomplished during his lifetime, I'd like to say, good on you Steve!
